Mary Lou Bernhard (neè Guy) passed away at the age of 71, in Clinton, Tenneessee, on Wednesday, June 23, after a long, hard battle with several illnesses including chronic MRSA and liver failure.
Mary was born in Spangler, Pennsylvania, on April 5, 1950. She was raised in Pearland, Texas, and graduated from Pearland High School in 1969. Later she attended Alvin Junior College near Houston where she earned an Associate's Degree in Nursing. She practiced nursing as an RN for more than 30 years. She was extremely dedicated as a caregiver and loving toward all whom she came in contact with.
She met her husband, Chuck, in 1979, and they were married on June 21, 1980, at Spring Branch Church in Houston, where they were both part of a singles group. Mary was a joy to all who met and knew her. She could make friends with anyone and was relentlessly optimistic. She was generous, kind, sweet, and gentle. She did not have to try very hard at these. These came naturally to her as a child of the God she loved. She accepted Christ at the age of eight and was committed to serve and enjoy Him for the remainder of her life.
Most of all Mary loved her husband, Chuck, and her children, Paul (39), Emily (34), and Mark until his passing at age 35 in August 2019. She is now rejoicing in heaven with him as she is with her other family members who preceded her in death: her mother and father, Frank and Kit, and sister, Linda. In her passing she also leaves behind a sister, Anna Harp, daughter-in-law, Natalia, and grandson, Viktor (5), and several beloved nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of Mary's life on Saturday, July 10 at 2 p.m. at Berean Bible Church at 2329 Prosser Road, Knoxville, Tennessee, followed by a reception. All friends and family are welcome. Please call Chuck Bernhard at 865-384-9764 or Paul Bernhard at 703-786-3449 for more information.
